Within the next three years we are bound to witness the beginning of a new humans & computers era, with a new concept of reality and a new way of perceiving and interacting with the world.
Mixed reality will be the future of computers. Much more important, mixed reality will be the future of our human perceptions, combining the best of our digital and physical worlds.
Instead of removing us from the real world (as in Virtual Reality: VR), or simply layering flat content on top of our view (as in Augmented Reality: AR, thinks of Pokemon Go), Mixed Reality (MR) adds intelligence, being it physics, gravity, dimension, even personality, to digital content related to the space around us.
As a result, we can blur the lines between what is real and what is digital, stripping away the barriers that interfere with our ability to make decisions quickly, absorb and process critical information, visualize possible scenarios before acting, or remotely share knowledge and tasks between individuals and groups.
The digital world is a world of information, while our physical reality is one of experiences, and because of that distinction those two realities have always remained separate, only connecting to each other through “tangents” like PC and smartphones. But that’s bound to change. The rise of Mixed Reality will bring new ways of experiencing information into the light, inspiring a new wave of interaction design and experiential software that enjoys a true sense of presence in digital worlds.
With mixed reality, our ideas move beyond the boundaries of paper, beyond the boundaries of screens, and beyond the boundaries of description. This is the fundamental promise of mixed reality. The barrier that exists between our physical and digital worlds will disappear.
If Artificial Intelligence is bound to augment our human intelligence, Mixed Reality is destined to augment our human senses. As a result, mixed reality will elevate our potential, exponentially, empowering us to enter a new era of the human evolution.
If you change the way you see the world, you can change the world you see
