# Decarbonisation matters

It's been a week since I joined Fitsol , and after the announcement was made on LinkedIn , I received many congratulations. However, I had even more people curious to learn about the concept of decarbonization ??. What surprised me was that a few industry leaders were still trying to wrap their heads around this important phenomenon.

That said, we need to give them the benefit of the doubt—this space is still evolving, with new innovations emerging around the globe. While no one, or very few, would argue against the need for decarbonization and the transition to net-zero, many are curious but unsure of where to start.

While I’m not an expert yet, I’m committed to learning more, gaining a deeper understanding ??, connecting with people in this field ??, and simplifying the concept for a broader audience ??.

In this first article, I’m going to draw an analogy to another trending and widely adopted concept among the current generation: Fitness. ??

Think about starting a healthier lifestyle. You begin by counting calories – measuring what you consume, tracking your intake, and gradually reducing it to improve your health. The principle is simple: if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it. ??

Now, imagine applying the same idea to something bigger: our planet. ??

Carbon accounting is like calorie counting for the environment. Here’s how it works:

?? Measuring: Just like you log every meal and snack to track calories, carbon accounting involves measuring the emissions generated by our daily activities—whether it's running a factory, driving a car, or using electricity in your home. ?????

?? Reporting: Once you know your calorie count, you track it to stay accountable. Similarly, businesses and individuals report their carbon emissions, ensuring transparency and helping stakeholders understand their environmental impact. ??

?? Reducing: The ultimate goal in both cases is reduction. Just like excess calories can harm your health, too much carbon harms our planet by accelerating climate change. By cutting carbon emissions—just like cutting extra calories—we work toward a healthier, more sustainable world. ??

The more we measure, report, and reduce, the closer we get to reaching net-zero emissions, just like we strive for our personal health goals. Let’s treat carbon like calories and help our planet stay in shape! ????

It’s one thing to do this as an individual, but imagine the complexity when a large organization with a vast supply chain tries to follow the same steps.
