A decade of opportunities await - will you take the chance?

Nobody knows what the future holds, but as we start a new decade one thing is for certain, the trait most needed to succeed is flexibility. It also helps to be open to new opportunities and to be willing to take a chance.

Just a few months ago I got a LinkedIn message from a former colleague. It said, "I have a role that I think would work for you but you'd need to relocate to LA, are you interested?" My long-held philosophy is to listen and meet with people who might want to work with me. So, I wrote back and said yes even though I had no idea what he had in mind nor any desire to move West. Barely two weeks later, after nine interviews and a short trip out to Los Angeles, I was making plans to upend my life. Yes, it was for an amazing company and yes the offer was lucrative, but I had spent my entire career in New York and was happily running my own company and building a terrific roster of clients and\ projects.

Now, less than half a year into my role as Global Post Production Outreach & Education Manager at Netflix, I'm amazed how prescient my boss was and is. The position might as well have been written just for me as it combines three things that I love - education, marketing and innovation. In a very short time I've grown, had the chance to use tools and experience culled over a long career to make a difference and I have expanded my knowledge base exponentially.

So, as we embark on this new ten-year sprint into the roaring 20's, try to say yes more often, keep your resume in tip top shape and always stay receptive to the lagniappe that comes your way. When opportunity knocks, throw that door wide open and take a chance on the adventure that awaits, Here's to you living your best life in 2020 and way, way beyond.
