Decade of JUST DO YOU!

Decade of JUST DO YOU!

During my years in both corporate and government workforces, the times when I was most effective, productive, motivated, and happy was when I was completely being myself. If you have witnessed one of my presentations, you understand that I am not your "typical" government speaker. Rarely standing on a stage or podium, I'd rather walk throughout the room, gain volunteers for portions of the program, and even go the extreme of wearing a costume or bringing props to make a point. In other words, I'm not afraid to be real, be vulnerable and be embarrassed. The biggest compliment that I can receive is "wow, you are authentic" - even if the person was a bit shocked by my behavior - smiles!

While I understand there is a culture that you must adhere to, there is no one way to actually be. The most fondly remembered, most revered people are those who stand out - and bring their unique skills sets to the workplace. The greatest teams that I ever been a part of were diverse, and each individual felt confident in being exactly who they are. I would never want to work with copycat versions of me...we need to learn from others too.

You know your strengths and talents - this is the year - the decade - to let them shine! The intergenerational workforce is a dynamic one - don't let people place you in a box based on your birthdate. Break those stereotypes and JUST DO YOU!

Drink Fine Wine...Ride Fine Horses is a great read for those wanting to pursue their dreams, while working their day job! Offered on Amazon - get a copy to start the new year off!
