Debt forgiveness, stopping oil and veggies to help emissions
Hello Friends! ??
I'm writing this newsletter from the comfort of a couch in my family's cabin in the south of Sweden (conveniently located a 5-minute drive from the Absolute Vodka factory).
I have the very fortunate ability to work remotely with my current job, which offers 3 months of work abroad experience each year. Naturally, I've taken the opportunity to visit family, and friends, and enjoy the tranquillity of staying at a cabin deep in the forest, and a 5-minute walk from the beach.
I highly encourage you all to find a job that allows for such an experience, and the flexibility to find some relaxation, while still continuing to work.
Also, happy labour day. If you have the luck of being employed with access to a union, I also highly encourage you to take advantage of it!
In this week's edition, we will be learning about everything from plant-based meals to debt reduction.
Enjoy!
Rip Medical Debt ??♂???
A group of Philadelphians have started a non-profit that aims to abolish medical debt. When a debt goes into non-collection (when an owner cannot pay), hospitals and insurers will sell the debt to a third party for pennies on the dollar. This allows the group to buy debt, and burn it, using funds raised by the organization.
Electric busses to save the country ??
India has secured funding and approval for a $7 billion dollar plan to electrify its bus systems across the country. The hope is that the project will bring the country's transportation industry, which is heavily reliant on non-renewable resources, into the future.
Tree's filtering microplastics ??
Researchers have found that sawdust and wood-cutting byproducts can be used to create a filter that removes virtually all microplastics from water. The researchers hope that their invention can sustainably save our oceans and rivers.
Debt-to-nature swap ??
After its recent coup, Gabon has committed to an agreement that would give them more favourable loan terms, in return for undertaking stronger marine conversation efforts. The first-of-its-kind agreement allows the country to borrow money at lower rates by committing to nature-oriented goals.

A climate lawsuit ????
Youth in Montana have won a lawsuit against the state, claiming that the state is not doing enough to protect the environment, hence impacting their future. The lawsuit claims that the state is encouraging the consumption of fossil fuels, directly impacting future generations.
Veggies to reduce emissions ??
New York's public hospitals have managed to reduce their carbon emissions by 36% in a single year. The reduction is largely attributed to a switch to plant-based meals provided to patients. The meals both include vegetables and plant-based meat substitutes.
And that's it, folks!
Thanks for joining me!
I will be staying in Sweden until the 29th, relaxing, eating good food, swimming, and ultimately, getting some well-deserved rest.
Remember, you are more important than your job, so make sure that you take care of yourself!
See you next week!
