We have developed, field-tested, and improved 25 different types of LOLAs. I plan to present these LOLAs in this Linked In series, one at a time. The article below is about one type, called Debriefing LOLAs.

5. Debriefing LOLAs

These LOLAs enable the participants to reflect on an online activity, come up with insights, and share them with each other.

There are different types of debriefing LOLAs and each type can be adapted to explore different training topics.

Interludes is a debriefing LOLA transforms passive presentations into active learning. The facilitator stops their presentation from time to time in approximately 7-minute intervals. They ask the participants to independently recall what they heard, review their notes, and type a single chat message that identifies the most important learning point. The group reviews and discusses these learning points. The LOLA repeats the review procedure with the facilitator continuing their presentation for another 7 minutes.

I love LOLAs and some of my preferred ones are the ones that bring awareness to assumptions and show the power of mindfulness in what we think, and what we do... I like using LOLAs at the beginning of a training or a workshop to bring awareness for example to something that is connected to the training or workshop theme. This helps the participants to connect with each other, with the topic and also have a little debrief and reflection on some topics from start which will bring them easier to deep dive in the topic itself.
