The decision to retire did not come easy, as she has led her team to the upcoming 2023 CMP Junior Olympics and National Championships. On retiring before the championships, "I had to make a choice. It was probably the hardest of my life, but ultimately, Lt. General Moore's quote always rang true: 'Leadership is not about being in charge. It is about taking care of those in your charge.' My team knows their job and how to execute on the line. Our coaches and the team have worked very hard this year to ensure that we succeeded in our goals. I wish I could be with them, but I have to train this summer for the NCAA. I will be watching their scores as the match progresses. I'll miss my teammates, but I can't wait to join JSU and learn under the Leadership of Coach Ron Frost."
Douglass McIntyre, CMSgt (Retired), the rifle coach at Reagan High School in Pfafftown, NC, said, "As a coach of a rival team, I have had the opportunity to witness Ms. Weiser compete, and I am impressed by her skill, dedication, and sportsmanship. Throughout the competitions, Ms. Weiser consistently demonstrated exceptional focus and precision, showcasing her abilities as a marksman. In addition, her ability to remain calm and composed under pressure is truly remarkable and sets her apart from many other athletes I have had the chance to observe. During my military career, I had the opportunity to be around some World Class Athletes at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, and Debi has what it takes to be that elite."
Weiser practices on Scopos Athena at Home Electronic Scoring Target system. She has played a vital role in recommending new features and helping them find new ways to engage the spectator through technology for the sport of marksmanship.
Weiser will major in Criminal Justice with a focus on Forensics. Debi's long-term goals include getting selected to join the prestigious United States Army Marksmanship Unit with sites set on #LA28 to represent either the United States or her mother's country of birth, where she holds dual citizenship, Panama.
