Deb Farrimond Art - supporting wildlife conservation
My wife Deb has recently launched her new website to display some of her artwork and hopefully improve her chances of getting her name and work recognised in the years to come.
As a self-taught artist working in pastels, charcoals and scratchboard, Deb’s passion is all about the conservation of our planet’s endangered wildlife species and she will be donating a minimum of 15% of all sales income from her work to conservation causes throughout the globe.
Deb recently donated $1000 towards the acquisition of a land parcel for Lion preservation. Knowing the people involved in this project and reviewing their long term plans for education through volunteer programs, Deb hopes they succeed with raising the funds to buy out neighbouring properties and secure a future for wild lions in their chosen region.
Deb also recently donated to Monarto Zoo for the new Rhino park which will house an impressive amount of Rhino’s from different gene pools as part of a plan to hopefully have stock to replenish this near extinct creature in the wild one day.
In our recent field trip to Africa, it stunned me to learn that Lions are poached just as heavily as Rhino’s for the lion bone trade. It amazes me that certain cultures have such "dumb cultural beliefs" about the powers of the powder created from ground bones and horns from these wild animals. Hopefully through generational education, we can find a way to end these cultural beliefs and in doing so, end the black market in Rhino, Lion and Elephant "product".
The question is, can we drive that "Educational" change in the next 10 years? That's how long Rhino's have and when they are gone, Elephants will become the next along with Lions.
Until this demand ends, poaching wont stop because it's an organised crime activity.
NOTE: Rhinos, Lions and Elephants are the big 3 but there are many other species being poached for their eyes and other bizarre body parts, whilst others are simply losing out to habitat loss.
Whilst in Africa, it also amazed me that Elephants are over populated in most of South Africa's game reserves, yet they can't move or sell them to neighbouring countries as they know they will just be sending them to their death, poached for their tusks….so they will be culled or hopefully be controlled via birth control.
Enough said above, we are slaughtering our planets wildlife at an alarming rate and we should all being doing our part to do something about it.
If you would like to support Deb, could you look at her new website, let us know what you think of her site via email and social media channels, and please pass on her website details to your friends and family.
