Dearest Educators... “We may be in the disillusionment phase, but we will get through it together.”

This week, I encourage you to take a moment to check in with yourself and assess how deeply you’ve stepped into the disillusionment phase of the year. Remember, we’re surrounded by an extraordinary team, amazing kids, and a school community that feels more like family than just a group of colleagues. If you’re reading this and thinking, "That's not me," remember you are still part of a community that is here to lift you up. Lean on your colleagues because we’re in this together. My highest expectation remains that your students will grow and progress every week. And while the challenges we’re facing this year are real and sometimes heavy, we are resilient. Together, we will make it happen. #LevelUp

What is the Disillusionment Phase?

After weeks of relentless work and nonstop demands, it’s natural for teachers to experience what we call the disillusionment phase. This period can vary from person to person, but it’s especially tough for our new teachers. The endless time commitment, the realization that things may not be going as smoothly as planned, and the drop in morale all contribute to this feeling. It’s a time when many of us start questioning our commitment, our abilities, and our impact. And for some, the stress even takes a physical toll, leading to illnesses.

It’s also when the stress and demands of teaching can start to spill over, affecting relationships outside of school. Family and friends may notice and express concern, which only adds to the pressure. This phase isn’t easy, especially for newcomers to the profession. Self-doubt creeps in, self-esteem drops, and the commitment you were so sure of may feel shaky. But let’s be real: pushing through this phase is one of the hardest battles new teachers face.

If this strikes a chord, don’t hesitate to reach out. We need each other, and that’s why your admin team and instructional coaches are here—to support, to listen, and to lift you up when you need it most. And if you’re feeling the weight and need a conversation, message me. I’m here to help.
