Dear Woman, Be Kind To Yourself

Before I became a Mum, I was a proud size 8. Like the all flat tummy and well a great figure (I say so, lol).

Then came motherhood.

You see, the thing about adding some flesh after childbirth is that it creeps in...slowly.  You still see yourself as your former size while every other person sees a new size.

I remember when I went shopping for new clothes and was looking at smaller sizes when the rude salesgirl, came over to me and said “we don’t have big sizes”

Mogbe. Emi big size?

Anyway, that’s a story for another day.

You see, I have learned that the world may not be kind to me but I will be kind to myself. I can not count on the world to do good to me just because.

It’s like saying, a vegetarian should not be eaten by a Lion because it doesn’t eat meat.

Does the Lion even care?

It doesn’t matter if I just carried a whole baby in me for nine months, had a surgery, struggling with postpartum depression and generally trying to figure out this motherhood thing.

It doesn’t matter whether I am trying to figure out the heck what I want to do with my life.

It doesn’t matter if I am dead broke, discouraged or even confused.

It doesn’t matter if just got the 100th rejection mail from organisations where I applied.

What matters is I will not give up.

My Mum-in-Law once told me to make use of available resources. What wisdom! When I am in that place of anxiety and feel the world is closing in on me, I simply pause and look around and tap into what I have to achieve what I want.

The result may not be what you want but it will a huge step in the right direction. Please try it; I promise you that it works.

The world may not be kind to me but I will be kind to myself.

No looking over my shoulder

The world may not be kind to you but please, be kind to yourself.

Light and Love, Omotayo
