Dear UN Women, Can we Commit suicide, please?
IS IT OKAY IF I COMMIT SUICIDE, PLEASE?
?While some people go through the medical challenges of mental health and are suicidal, a group of women would want to commit suicide because they cannot take the slow death process the world and their country is putting them through.
Can we commit suicide, please? This is not a standard question medically suicidal people ask as it is not a pattern of the illness. One Uyghur woman asked in a live interview: can we commit suicide? She asked this because of the experience of inequality, suppression, objectification, murder, sexual assaults, genocide sterilization, religious restrictions, forced marriage, and Labour perpetrated by the Chinese government.
Since 2017, up to 1.8 million Uighurs, Kazaks, and other Turkic minority groups in the northwestern Chinese region of Xinjiang have been swept up in what is probably the largest incarceration of an ethnoreligious minority since the Holocaust. Exile Uighurs and China researchers have described this campaign as a "cultural genocide".
Multiple publications have shown strong evidence that Beijing's actions in Xinjiang also meet the physical genocide criterion cited in Section D of Article II of the United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide: "imposing measures intended to prevent births within the [targeted] group".
Multiple reports from victims, families, mainstream media and pseudo-acknowledgment by the Chinese government confirm this barbaric act. Somehow, it only floods the media and UN house, and it magically ends there. Still, one would have thought the largest organizations fighting and demanding women's freedom have close to something to say about it, but your guess is as good as mine; the UN Women ?? doesn't seem to care.
In my quest to be sure that I wasn't wrong and believe they must be doing something about it, I started researching their efforts to provide help or speak for the Uyghur women, but none was on their website; I mean zero reports. Here is a pic below

While UN Women is doing "tremendous work" in providing empowerment and security for "all" women, it expressly excludes the Uyghur women. The Uyghur women can be said not to be part of the UN Women four strategic priorities which include:
Women lead, participate in and benefit equally from governance systems
Women have income security, decent work, and economic autonomy
All women and girls live a life free from all forms of violence
Women and girls contribute to and have greater influence in building sustainable peace and resilience and benefit equally from the prevention of natural disasters and conflicts and humanitarian action.
Maybe the Uyghur women are not women enough for UN women or do not fit a narrative they must have wanted.
It is also essential to know that some bodies and institutions excuse the Chinese government's actions based on the "only" wanting to reduce its population; the UN documents say different and confirm this is a crime of genocide, as clearly stated above. To my biggest surprise as an advocate for humanity and women empowerment, one would assume if these were true, why are a group of particular ethnicities and religions targeted, and why "do these women not have the power to make a choice" as the world and UN Women clamors for!
Going through multiple burdens of the trauma of physical, sexual assault, ultimate violations, these women are going through the worst of experiences in the hands of the Chinese government. While others have committed suicide, others are now asking if they can commit suicide.
I am asking the boards of the UN Women to wake up to their task or explain why these Uyghur women can go through so much humiliation, while the "UN Women" is mute.
