The holiday season has arrived, and the atmosphere in the classroom is merry and bright. Students are anticipating the celebration and the start of winter break with great excitement. For teachers, it is a great opportunity to direct this energy towards the learning process. You can easily do this by including the celebrations and using festive references into your?lessons.
Here are some Christmas themed classroom activities and homework projects that will help students learn while enjoying the Christmas spirit. The projects have cross-curricular standards so you can easily integrate them into your ongoing lesson plans.
- Set the mood for the Christmas vacation?by getting your students together and discussing topics like, Is Christmas regifting okay?, What is Christmas really about?, The history of Christmas celebrations, winter solstice and celebrations in different cultures, and other similar subjects.
- Get your students to make their own hand painted Christmas holiday t-shirts.?Ask them to bring paints and a solid coloured t-shirt. Then make a handprint on the t-shirt and add some branches to fill in the ‘hand tree’. Let them decorate the tree by drawing their voice on ornaments on it.

- Project Christmas Spirit:?No Christmas holiday homework can be complete without a little Christmassy value in it. Celebrate the value of giving by asking your students to do a community service of donating warm clothes to the needy for the coming winter days. They can even rebuild community shelters to protect animals from the harsh chilly nights. Ask them to note down their experience and the sense of joy they felt helping those in need.
