Dear Recruiter...

Dear Recruiter...

A couple of weeks ago, we co-hosted an event with Chapter 2 , where Steven Bartlett shared what it takes to build purpose-led teams.

One of the big takeaways was that a values-driven culture attracts the right people and keeps everyone focused on the mission. Neglect it at your peril.

But how do you bring that lesson to life? Well, I’ll share a little story I shared on the night.

I was in an office recently (I won’t name names), and they had their values on the wall. One of them was “be considerate”.

And then I went to the kitchen, and there was a poster that said, “Please stop leaving dirty mugs in the sink.”

Those two things are fundamentally incompatible. The person who leaves their mug to go moldy should be fired, not given a sign. Because values are behaviors you reward and fire on, right?

Culture is about committing to consistent, everyday actions that reinforce your values. Be it washing your mug or doing something about those who don’t.

?? Data Point: RecruitmentTrends

Data and insights direct from the Pinpoint team

Given we’re well into planning and budget setting season, I thought it was worth looking at the latest trends in average number of hires per recruiter.

The increase we saw in Q1 has continued in Q2 and this poses some interesting questions:

  • Does this reflect the beginnings of an increase in macroeconomic confidence?
  • Does it indicate the ‘do more with less’ mantra has taken hold, forcing TA teams to take on more work without more resource?
  • Is it a sign of improved efficiency and streamlined workflows?

It could be all three. The really interesting questions to ask though are how do your numbers compare? And what does that tell you about the state of your own TA team?

  • Are you getting the most value from the tools you have to help your recruiters handle more hires?
  • Do you have enough capacity for the upcoming year? (TTC) The Talent Community has a free TA Capacity Calculator that can help you with this.
  • Or have you stopped to consider rather than more people, maybe your TA team needs fewer processes?

??? Talent Talks - with Jeremy Lyons

Quick fire questions to get to know leading recruiters

Speaking of processes, I had a great chat with Jeremy A. Lyons , co-founder of RecOps Collective , in our latest episode of Talent Talks. I wanted to know how he measured success in RecOps, and his answer is a celebration of simplicity:

“You're looking at efficiencies and you're looking at how many steps have we actually removed from a process…A lot of people tend to think that the most complex solution is the best solution, when in fact, it's how many things can you remove.”

Love this from Jeremy. Check out the full episode for more hard-learned hot takes and insights from his many years in the recruitment sector.

????How Merseyrail implemented an ATS hiring managers wanted to use

From the Pinpoint team

We recently sat down with Merseyrail to find out how Pinpoint is helping them to improve hiring manager engagement.

It was great to hear how much the implementation with Pinpoint formed part of that journey. Once they came to roll the system out, Rosy R. , HR Support Centre Advisor, was able to say, “This works because it’s built for us, to make our lives easier.”

And in turn, this gave hiring managers the confidence to dive in.

You can read more about how Merseyrail took hiring manager engagement to cries of “That’s boss” here.

I’ll sign off by asking if any of our readers got the chance to bag themselves a ‘Bartlett blend’ created by Twinings at our event?

We’d love to see how you’re enjoying your brew (just make sure you wash your mug after...)

As always, for any insights or feedback, you can email me at? [email protected]

All the best,
