Reine: “Mama can I please use your phone?”
Moi: “Sure honey, what do you need it for, Games?”
Reine: “No mommy, our teacher asked us to find out more on the different arts in Nigeria ???? “
Moi: “Interesting, so which are you going to start with?”
Reine: “Thé Nok Art. Do you know about it, mama?”
Moi: “ Errrrrm! I know of it but I don’t know much about it.
I quickly gave her my phone to avoid answering any more questions ... ??”

It gives me pure joy when I see her all excited about learning new things.
As a single mom and a parent who is busy all the time + having a lot of responsibility, her education is amongst my top priorities.
Thanks to the internet, we can study anywhere (especially while I'm working), It’s easier for her to discover new things and dig deeper into topics taught in school all by herself.
But there’s a problem...
As important as the internet is, it can also be dangerous leaving her to explore all by herself especially when I'm busy doing other things.
How do we protect our kids online and still give them the freedom to learn and explore using the internet?
How do they know which links are safe to click on and what pages they shouldn’t be on?
As a parent, I know you have the same fears as I do. We should also be aware of these online safety tips so we can help protect our kids from scammers and hackers on the internet.
Remember, if they get hacked, there is a 105% chance that you will also be affected.
Let’s do the right thing.
Join me and little Reine for a two days workshop, organized by Google on how to keep your activities safe online as we mark the Safer Internet Day 2020 from the 11th to the 12th of February 2020 here in Abuja.
