Dear #NotAllMen Men

Dear #NotAllMen Men

Dear #NotAllMen men, let's not treat conversations with women about their generalised experiences as accusations about all men.

They aren’t.

They are, however, prevalent enough to be generalised experiences of a large proportion of #AllPeople

Rather than treating stories as accusations, why not treat them as invitations. Invitations to discuss, learn and participate in future solutions.

Why not turn the moments into aspirations - joint-aspirations of a world where people feel safe, supported and cared about, no matter where they are or who they are.

Rather than treating these invitations to act as a burden, why not treat them as a privilege? The privilege to have the opportunity to one day, be able to be part of an active solution. Part of the collective aspiration that we all have for ourselves, our loved ones and hopefully everyone else - that they have access to a healthy, happy, free, safe, well-supported life.

#NotAllMen do terrible things, it’s true.

Unfortunately, #NotAllPeople are living the dream - some people are living in nightmares.

If we have a chance to create environments, people and moments that relieve people of those nightmares, we should take them.

The time for open conversations, for errors, mistakes, missteps, misspeaking and awkwardness is upon us - lets look for ways to step into good faith conversations - where everyone is aware that we each bring a different perspective and level of understanding to the table. A dialogue where being wrong is not a death sentence, because ‘being right’ isn’t the whole point of the exercise - understanding is. Where the outcome isn’t to ‘win an argument’, but to move closer to creating the world of our joint aspirations of safety, trust, happiness and opportunity - together.

Remember, there is no fixed ‘utopia’, only forward movement, improving access to contribution, connection and opportunity for us all, surely that is something we can all get behind. We’re in it together, we can build it together, if we can come together.

Consider this an invitation to an aspiration, not an accusation. We can be better - and we should.

This: ‘being right’ isn’t the whole point of the exercise - understanding is. Yes! Sometimes #allpeople need to let off stream and when that happens, generalisations can (and often do) happen. Allowing someone/a group of someones the space to vent freely is such a wonderful expression of love. Go with love #allmen ??
