Dear Northern Nigerian Politicians

As we bounce in to the NEXT LEVEL.

Lets not forget to rearrange our priorities, clean up the cobwebs impairing our vision by pondering and asking ourselves why we have a failed system, so many problems.

Illiteracy, boko haram, Thuggery, backwardness, Drug Addicts, poverty, child marriage, VVF , Rape, Abduction, Almajiri

Lets also ask ourselves why we have not resolved our problems yet, the one sitting right in front of us.

Are we waiting on God?

Are we trying to protect our selfish interest?

If we are waiting on God

Just know that God is not coming to help us out while we are sitting crossed legs on our high chairs.

I know that we are always praying and waiting on God since we are religious people. remember the saying, Heaven helps those who help themselves?

If its our selfish interest we are protecting I must say that those kids that we buy codeine for, those ones we have made thugs are going to be our fall.

there will come a time where we will have to hide before entering our houses.

where we will have to hide before going out,

there will come a time when they will make us prisoners in our own homes.

Ignorance, lack of jobs, Drug Abuse, thuggery, boko haram, abductors, all of this issues narrows down to one single issue that which we have turned a blind eye to, which is Almajiranci.

This Modern slavery is the mother of all problems in the North and Nigeria as a whole.

Eating deep in to our society and creating more problems under it.

You hear comedians joke about it, movies, musicians sing about it.

When ever north is mentioned anywhere in the world, the first thing that comes to mind is Almajiri then boko haram.

How will a child wander around looking for food and his parents are somewhere sleeping with their eyes closed?

No! This inhumanity and wickedness must stop,

We hide behind seeking for knowledge or religion to practice Almajiranci.

No! There is no any explanations or justifications whatsoever for this cruelty. No! Islam isn't cruel, Islam isn't wicked, Islam forbids begging.

this is a clear case of child abuse .

An idle man they say is the devil's workshop.

Imagine a child who has been deprived of the will to dream.

Kids who grow up with all the curiosity, and thoughts to explore the world are the ones growing up by the road side wearing rags and begging for food each passing day.

this home-forsaken children are made to suffer the dangers on the streets on a daily basis in the course of begging for alms and foraging for food.

This kids will not be the devil's workshop, they will be the devil himself.

You will agree with me since the famous Shekau was once an almajiri child.

He was a victim of a failed system

 ..Where boko haram recruit from..

Where politicians get there thugs from..

Where kidnappers get their followers from..

Can't you see that this is an opening for insecurity?

This almajiri kids are the ones that grow up filled with anger and vengeance to be political thugs, to be thieves, miscreants, a threat to our lives.

They are holding you and I responsible for what they've been through.

We have become a laughing stock worldwide. There has to be a problem somewhere.

I mean just few months back when Rev. Mathew kukah revealed his plan to train 10 million almajiri children in northern Nigeria some Muslims frowned at it saying the implementation must be in the hands of Muslims in the region even adding that they can not entrust their Muslim children to Christian gospellers. ...Hahha...

Now this is very funny, saying they can not entrust their kids in the hands of the reverend but they can entrust this kids in the hands of the scorching sun on the streets? they can entrust it to hungry politicians? they can entrust it to total strangers who in some cases use this kids for fetish activities? They can entrust this kids to boko haram abi?

What is the worst that could happen if he had succeeded in helping us take off 10 million almajiri kids off the streets? 10 million dammit!

so what if he ends up converting all of them? Its better than having them all turn in to bunch of murderers isn't it?

The truth is we have perceived that it will be a point of reference in the future and we might have to cover our faces in shame when it happens, we will be portrayed as bunch of irresponsible, ignorant and nonchalant people that's why we stopped him but that's what we are, isnt it? truth is black.

With the first citizen of Nigeria in the North, his right hand man, chief of staff, 19 Governors in the same North, Inspector general of Police, National Security Adviser, Senate President, Maradona, Defense Minister, Speaker, House of representative and a whole lot of prominent people in this same North, why does almajiri issue persist?

We don't really have the interest of this kids at heart do we? we don't want to be help ourselves do we? we just want to continue to immerse the north in to some deep shit, isn't it?

Thirty years ago,

World leaders came together in a moment of unity for the world’s children.

They made a promise to every child to protect and fulfil their rights, by adopting the UN’s Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Convention established childhood as a period that is separate from adulthood" – a time in which children should grow, learn, play, develop and flourish.

But today Unicef has it that about 10.5 million children in Nigeria are out-of-school children — the world’s highest number. Sixty per cent of those children are in northern Nigeria.,”

This children are forced to become hustlers.

They hustle to eat, hustle to wear rags, hustle to get a place to lay their heads, hustle to have access to health care and education all in the name of Almajiranci.

When they are supposed to be Living, Learning and Laughing, they are struggling, suffering and surviving.

Its a shame that we are so used to them on our streets that we don't even remember to look at them as the children they are...

If we go back in history, the main aim of the almajiri’ system was to encourage children to seek islamic knowledge under the watch and care of a guardian who is often the teacher.

This is not the case today, these system has outlived its purpose, graduating to a cruel unsafe place for this kids, a breeding ground for terrorism. They are allowed to fend for themselves, You see them on the streets day and night with no shoes begging instead of learning. They waste valuable time roaming around and end up not even acquiring the knowledge they migrated all the way for.

These children are exposed to all sorts of vices ranging from slavery, to rape, all sorts of abuse, they are brainwashed and used for violent activities.

Just few weeks back in sokoto state one mallam murtala, a teacher of almajiri was caught allegedly having unlawful and forceful sexual intercourse with six of his pupils aged between four and 15 and it didn't stop just at that, the said mallam murtala was collecting money from external homosexual clients and forcing the children to submit themselves to sexual acts.

Teacher rapes almajiri school pupils in sokoto, hires them out to external homosexual clients

At this juncture permit me to say that Almajiranci of today is completely unislamic, Almajiranci does not in any way represent Islam, Almajiranci represents hunger and poverty

Dear northern politicians,

It is not just about making a move because you are being ridiculed, it is not just about constructing roads and bridges, about throwing money on the streets to be voted for or about giving this kids food and clothes during Ramadan.

It is about your desire to make a change, about taking proactive measures, about building schools and sustaining it, about investing on their education and following up, its about abolishing Almajiranci totally, any child who wants to seek knowledge should seek it at his home town under the care of his parents.

Its about attaching a capital punishment to any family who intend to make their kids orphans of the living parents.

its about putting a limit to child birth especially for family who can not afford to take care of their kids. I mean what is the point of giving birth to so many children if they'd have to beg others to take care of them? Or have to send them off for marriage or send them off for Almajiranci to ease their burden?

It is about providing them with skills or jobs to engage themselves.

It is about domesticating the Child Rights Act in the whole of Northern Nigeria which section 30 states that a child shall not be used for the purpose of begging for alms, guiding beggars, prostitution, domestic or sexual labour...

We must at this point come together and do something about this before it is too late.

There is a need for a law that will incriminate the act of Almajiranci

Let's join hands to take them off the streets, protect them and protect us

Our NEXT LEVEL can only be assured when we take Almajiranci to the NEXT LEVEL

These are a category of out-of-school children that need to be targeted for enrollment into public basic education schools as appropriate. If nothing is done, it would be a generation of leadership lost in Northern Nigeria. Government programs for this category of children and youth is being elaborated for take off across the country and with support of Governors to achieve SDG4 and all other Education related targets. I am sure that with our collective support, the implementation would be a great success

A very good article. We must continue the advocacy and engagement with the government until all the almajiris are sent to a formal school!
