Dear LinkedIn (Our Story)

Dear LinkedIn,

We used to be so close. Sitting on the couch every night, going through connections and sharing that PULSE love. Something has definitely changed...is it me? What did I do and how can I make it right?  I used to depend on you for rich business news and making valuable connections. I love networking with you...well, I used to love it.

Why are you being like this? Now you show memes and political rants every day on my timeline. I get it...it's all about Facebook isn't it? I understand that Facebook is your much more popular big brother with the perfect SAT score. Everyone loves Facebook but you don't HAVE to be like Facebook. You had a different sense of style and most importantly, you had tremendous value. That doesn't happen overnight.

You need to make a change because you're driving people away. You were my safe haven from the madness of the typical social media noise. We've been cool since 2008 but these days, you make it hard. Twitter is getting on my nerves too, but we're working it out...one day at a time, right?

I hope that this letter finds you well. I hope that you can take a good look at yourself and think, "What have I become?" You don't have to be Facebook to get "likes" (Pun intended). Just be the old LinkedIn and take pride in that. You know how people always say, "It's not you, it's me."  Well, it's definitely not me. When you decide to come back, I'll be waiting.

* One last thing, can you do something about new connections dropping a sales pitch in my mailbox 3 seconds after I accept them? Like the great Ham Porter once said, "You're killing me Smalls!"

Truth. With the recent changes to your relationship, I also feel like LinkedIn has ditched out on her college friends and replaced us with richer, cooler friends like recruiters. Don't forget who promotes LI to thousands of alumni and students!
