Dear LinkedIn...
Dear LinkedIn…
?I often reflect on the relationship we used to have with fondness and fulfillment. We would spend countless hours together, each of us helping the other to grow and become a better version of ourselves. We would exchange wisdom, knowledge and information with respect and the understanding that if we work together, we can be better. It used to be that one of my favorite things about you, was that you had an unrelenting ability to attract amazing people and to be surrounded by those who also want to be the best version of themselves. There was a neutral confidence you possessed, one which I, and many other professionals came to rely on.
Dear LinkedIn, I miss what you used to be. You’ve become tainted by social pressures and have strayed from your roots. The things that once made you so unique have been lost in a quagmire of narcissistic attention grabbing and vilification of your peers. You are no longer a vessel for pragmatism but instead a forum for espousing conflict, hatred and increasingly irrelevant opinion. My aforementioned fulfillment after a day together has been replaced with frustration and a longingness for a new relationship.

This of course begs the question, is it you or is it me, and by me, is it more accurate to suggest that it is us, all of us the LinkedIn community? If you are reading this, then perhaps you also remember what your relationship with LinkedIn used to be and perhaps you also miss it. Perhaps an intervention of sorts is required, one where we all covet the relationship we used to have with LinkedIn and we decide that we must do our part to support getting back to that place.
Dear LinkedIn; you have my commitment to help you get back to being the best version of yourself and to once again be an island for all of us to grow, learn and evolve, both personally and professionally. You are a critical member of the professional community and because you are so important, you are worth it. You are worth the communal and conscience effort it will take to help you be a beacon.?
