DEAR JOB SEEKER, PLEASE ADHERE TO INSTRUCTIONS - PART 2: Attachments
Computers are good at following instructions, but not at reading your mind. -Donald Knuth
Hello Professionals and rookies :) I have been swamped with work and couldn't meet the timeline for the part 2 but I believe its better late than never, so here we go.
Last time, we looked at following instructions as regards email applications. This time we are looking at attachments.
When applying for jobs, a very critical document to the entire process is the candidate's profile. This may be an already prepared document (CV) or a form that is filled out on the prospective employer's website or portal.
You are often required to submit CVs and Certificates. This is not funfare. The employers like to have some documents to back up your claims. These documents are used for background checks, references and record keeping(for posterity).
Let's digress a bit. I am a Tech guy (even though my boss Hafiz does not totally agree) doing an IT job in HR. In HRIS, Data collection, "Storage" and analysis all come with their own challenges.
Attachments pose their own challenges as storage. This, my friends is the reason why attachments are requested in a particular extension (formats e.g .doc, .docx, .pdf.....), and size. Formats may be necessary during data extraction but size is mostly for space purposes. Sometime last week, i looked into the code of an application that stores Job Descriptions and realized that the developer set a particular size in KBs. what this implies is that if your Documents are larger than the defined size , you get an upload error. I hope you now understand why you would be getting that error when u r trying to upload your documents during a job application purpose.
I am not saying recruiters are perfect, I am just pointing out the little things we overlook during job applications that may cost us an opportunity to even sell our skills.
Like Donald say and I emphasize, computers follow the recruiters instructions and not read the applicant's mind. Recruiters rely heavily on these computer that can't read your minds.
And before I forget, don't tag @Hafiz Bidmus or @Tobi Odunowo. I still love my job.
