Dear Hoteliers wake up, you need some creativity now!
Creativity is the only key to generate additional revenue, and hotels need to appeal to local corporate guests and tourists to help the hospitality sector recover.
I have seen some examples in Asia with packages combining room, food, and beverages as well as full access to all facilities. Creative promotions are the only way in this period to attract local guests.
Hospitality has been one of the first industries to be hit by Covid-19 and will be the slowest to recover. There is no segments of the travel industry spared from international hotels to small restaurants all around the world.
Strategies cannot only be based on cutting costs, but above all on level of demand on short term from locals. However in the long term, financial institutions and landlords might be the ones to be involved in order to find smooth solutions.
On the MICE segment, I tend to see this, as the last to recover with an obvious reduction in participants in order to cut corporate expenses. This might mean small scale events, while large ones will most probably return in late 2021.
Safety is a key factor in the travel industry and of course people will travel back again only when they will be sure to be in a safe environment. The young local generation might be among the first ones to travel again, that's why I believe we all need to rely on local demand first. This is a time of cooperation where everybody can make a difference.

4 年Good article. Bec my booking system can host all the travel products, therefore I have been pushing this idea to many hotels by using technology. Pre-sale or during their stay can make good profit. Check-in, scan the QR code, open the platform, and start shopping. Room service, spa, transportation, dining, half day tours, etc. Why not? Nagaworld in Cambodia is doing this using my system.

4 年Yes Alberto, recovery will be slow, local and regional travel will be the first to recover, as safer travel "bubbles" are agreed between governments, we can hope to see gradual recover in cross border traffic..eventually as bubbles start to merge ..then we can hope to return to international movement, before finally a cure is found. However recovery is not just down to hotels, it needs to involve and be supported by sll local stakeholders..
