Dear Founders 2; By Kelechi Abiri, HR Tech and Consulting Leader
Dear Founders,?
A character from one of my favourite series, Stranger Things said "You speak of monsters and superheroes, that's the stuff of myth and fairytales. Reality, truth, is rarely so simple. People are not so easily defined. Only by facing all of ourselves - the good and the bad - can we become whole." - Dr Brenner.?
Are you aware of the good and bad of your team or business? In this season of my growth, I am learning daily to be mindful of the good and bad of my industry, team and company. My role as a founder is to be conscious of how to use this data to make informed decisions. I don’t get it right all the time but I am open enough to learn from my mistakes.
In the early days of my business, I used to be very much afraid of “looking’’ at my business from the viewpoint of a customer. I used to be so ashamed of criticism or negative feedback. It was so hard to separate myself from feedback. My “perspire to aspire” folks have dressed up motivational speeches in a way that a lot of people are afraid to “evaluate” themselves because of fear of what they might see.?
Today, I want to encourage you as a founder to “look”, open your eyes and see. Look at your numbers, your people and your culture. Evaluate each of your processes, and identify your strengths and weaknesses. Strengths and weaknesses are truths you must get acquainted with. It’s the wholeness of your business. It can be emotional to face the truth of your weaknesses but it exists no matter how you plan to ignore them.?
One weakness you must not ignore is your company culture, it was Peter Drucker, the management consultant, educator, and author, who came up with the quote “Culture eats strategy for breakfast”, but what does it mean? In my new e-book, I explained common company culture mistakes that can disrupt your strategy.?
I put together this easy-to-read ebook just for you, and it’s affordable too, and you can purchase it by clicking here
I would really love your feedback and encouragement. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.??
