Dear Father, I Am Listening! Your Daughter
A Father's love is one thing, but a Father's encouragement... Wow!
As a young girl I was constantly told that I could do anything I put my mind to. These words range true in my mind daily. They had to. Over the years I have done most everything I put my mind to; everything I had control over. But, I, as many of us, still deal with the negative comments and/or thoughts that spin around in our minds.
My life's mission now is the #tooprettymovement. At these beginnings stages it seemed best to create a #kickstarter campaign. Create more awareness, raise some money to produce a new line, complete #thebeautyinstrength book and catch the eye of a strategic partner and investor. So, that is what I have done and with one week left in the campaign, it is GO time!
I met with my father yesterday for coffee back in my hometown of Sacramento. I was asked to be on the local news channel to talk about he Too Pretty Kickstarter campaign. Lots of local love! I had spoken to my father on the phone the week I started the campaign and he had no idea what Kickstarter was. I think he still doesn't exactly know:) I told him how I was a little discouraged about the slow progress and really needed to reach a benchmark goal the next day. I was hoping he would pitch in, even though he has never funded anything I have done. He simply said, "Keep working at in and it will happen" I got off the phone and was a little upset that he didn't offer to help me even a little with my goal.
So here we are having coffee, talking and laughing for about 2 hours. I had to catch my flight back home so he walked me out to the car and gave me a card before I left. I opened it as soon as I could while sitting at a stop light. Tears starting rolling down my face as I read it. He had added a $100 bill in the card, but of course, that meant nothing in comparison to those words.
Those words I heard constantly as a little girl. I needed to hear them again! Even after so many years and so many successes. A father's encouragement is so much more than we give it credit for. It is needed as a toddler, a child, a teenager, an adult and even many years later. To all of you fathers out there, keep encouraging your girls and don't stop. You have no idea what it means and how powerful it is!
I love you Dad!
