Dear Business Leaders: It's Time to Make Lemonade
“Our key employee Earl called in sick…”
“Our largest client has a critical emergency and is counting on us to make things right…”
“Our largest competitor is poaching our clients…”
“Sales are down…”
“We are in the middle of the world’s biggest pandemic in 100 years…”
“Our funding just got cut…”
There are real words spoken in business every single day. It can be cut-throat. It can be scary. It can seem overwhelming, like the world is crashing down and you are a victim of circumstance outside of your control.
Or…
It can be viewed as an opportunity.
Mindset really is everything. The 6 comments I quoted in the beginning of this article likely elicited a negative response, as they were meant to. But instead of looking at these from a doom and gloom perspective, there is a hidden opportunity hidden within each one of them.
Earl called in sick… let’s order him Door Dash for the next couple of days to show him how appreciative we are of his service.
Our client has an emergency and is counting on us to make things right…call the client today, tell them we are more than happy to get involved. Let’s use this as a way to show them our superior service and make a case study of this for future marketing!
Sales are down…time to offer our customers a special offer to get the money flowing again! There’s no better time to reevaluate our sales process and ask where we can improve.
Do I need to keep going?
My point is that there is going to be hardship during your journey of entrepreneurship. It’s the path less traveled full of high risk and reward circumstances. When you are faced with adversity it’s not time to freeze and panic, nor is it the time to run. It’s time to take a deep breathe, use logic over emotion, and find a way to turn this problem into a solution.
Sure, this article might seem cheesy. Maybe I didn’t write it for you, maybe I wrote it for me. Maybe I needed to remember that at the end of the day, no wonder how big the challenges in front of us may seem, we find a way to not only get through and live another day but learn from our mistakes and come out better than before. From one business man to another, I hope you find some value in this article.
