Dear Black Women, What does it look like and feel like to celebrate each other?

This month’s newsletter for April will center around Black Women’s History Month

?

Dear Black Women,

What does it look like and feel like to celebrate each other? I bet in a nanosecond you can recall a moment when you haven’t felt supported by another Black woman. I do not mean in general. I know you can specifically tell me the when, who, why, and how it went down. You probably just got in your feeling a little bit, recalling the event. Now I want you to think about the last time you felt genuinely affirmed by the sistahhood.

On Clubhouse I belonged to a group called Black Grl Talk (no I) I spent many hours hanging out and having some of the most real and vulnerable conversations I had in my life. I could put down my superwoman cape and just be Renata no title no role. It was a magical time even when we didn’t always agree we always felt heard. Shout out to Shayla Washington the creator of Black Grl Talk.

Support and celebration look different to everyone and are often needs-based. I think about the question in the bible when Jesus asked who would give your child a stone if they asked for bread. Two conditions must be met for support. The first is what is asked for and the second is the ability to give. Too often we put our conditions on both of those. We filter through our experiences. You may not desire a hug, but a hug might be just what another sister needs. Please know that your small gesture could be the difference between life and death. Yes, I said life and death.

Celebrating with someone doesn’t call for a grand party or gift. That “like” you didn’t give after head nodding through this entire article…lol. While you are “liking” please also subscribe. If you have read these letters before then you know I give actionable steps. Below are 3 things you can do for free to show support and celebrate. Make your own list!

?

·???????? Make sure you hit like, or love when enjoying a post.

·???????? Pay a sister a genuine compliment.

·???????? Go out of your way for a sister this month.

This is SUCH an important conversation! Thank you again Renata! I’d love to open a room on this topic soon! I know that for me, I do a lot of watching and listening. And for a long time, people didn’t understand why. That is how I show my support though. I build. I may not hoot and holler and shout all the words. But I will work tirelessly behind the scenes to fight for safer spaces for us to just BE. To have a voice. To practice using our voices, and to create opportunities and platforms for us to amplify our voices. Not all celebration or love looks the same. But sometimes, we know both what’s needed and what our capacity is.

This is amazing thank you Shayla Washington for letting us know about this article , Renata this is a great question , I’ll circle over again to share on the topic . Have a wonderful week.
