Dear Allies, Let’s Discuss Judge Jackson’s Confirmation Hearing

Happy Monday!! Welcome to our weekly LinkedIn Newsletter: Join us at Brown Table Talk. We will be publishing every Monday to unpack our thoughts from our weekly Brown Table Talk Podcast- and we just kicked off Season 3! Our podcast which is now part of the LinkedIn Podcast Network. WOHOO!

In this week’s episode Brown Table Talk, we unpack this topic: Dear Allies, Let’s Discuss Judge Jackson’s Confirmation Hearing. Because here’s what allies need to understand: the treatment Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson received during the most historic workplace interview panel is what so many Black Women face every single day in Corporate America. Black Women watched as:

  • She was repeatedly interrupted.
  • She was questioned by some of the interviewers in a mocking and accusatory tone.
  • She was repeatedly defending her credentials, despite being the most qualified.

And more.

Meanwhile, media coverage by white writers included the “lessons we should learn from high stress interviews” without acknowledging or having any cultural understanding or context of her experience as a Black Woman. Allies, should we be applauding Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson and holding her up as a role model for how to be “grace under pressure” during a tough interview? Or should we hold the interview panel accountable for holding different candidates to different standards, and for the racist undertones of the hearing?

Tune in to our episode to hear our stories and more advice. You won’t want to miss this conversation.

As always, you have a standing invitation to join us at the Brown Table Talk Podcast. Take a listen to this episode and share it with someone who needs to hear a different perspective today.

Because change requires tough conversations. Tough conversations like these.? And we can’t change what we won’t discuss.

With Much Love and Gratitude, Mita & Dee

Hold them accountable - where is the balance and equity? It’s unacceptable. This display of overt bias needs to be called out and we need change. It’s not ok.
