Dealing with Supply Chain Management
Tucker Yarbrough
CFO/ General Manager at Yarbrough & Sons Heating, Cooling & Plumbing
At Yarbrough and Sons, the thought of dealing with supply chain, and operations management does not often come to mind. But when asked about supply chain operations and how he interacts with it, Rob had a few things to say. As the service manager at Yarbrough and Sons Heating and Air Conditioning, Rob deals with customers on a daily basis who are in need of all sorts of parts, some more common than others. However, it never fails that a few of them will be on back order, or will have to special ordered, in step supply chain management. Rob will spend that next bit working around the simi-slow systems in place in the HVAC supply industry. Rob said, "Having to wait on a part isn't the ideal thing to do, but we'd rather fix it right, than fast." If the systems in place could get a buff, "We could fix it right, and fast, wouldn't that make our lives easier?" Thankfully however, Yarbrough's subverts this issue by keeping the most common OEM parts on hand to fix the job right and in a timely manner. "In an industry that is lagging behind the technology curve, you have to do all that you can to provide, better, faster, and cheaper goods than you did a year ago." Supply chain operations sometimes steps in the way of Yarbrough's getting things done, but good things come to those who are willing to do things the right way.
