Dealing with Mental Health: When You Share, You’re Not Alone
Bob Bradway
I’m excited to be leading Amgen as we harness dramatic advances in science and technology to serve patients suffering from serious diseases.
Too many people suffering from mental health problems are not diagnosed in a timely or effective manner, and widespread stigma continues to deter many from being open about their challenges and seeking out the help they need. That has to change.
At Amgen, we understand that our innovative medicines are just one part of a holistic approach to patient care that must encompass both physical and mental health. The two are closely related. Stress, anxiety, and depression can provoke or exacerbate physical illness, just as they can also result from physical disease. A recent survey shows that 76 percent of America’s workforce have dealt with at least one challenge affecting their mental health.
Amgen provides a variety of programs for our employees focused on their mental health. And on this World Mental Health Day, we’re pleased to lend our support to a national campaign sponsored by the American Heart Association to normalize the conversation around mental health and encourage employees to utilize the resources provided by their companies. To learn more about this important topic, I encourage you to read this interview with Amgen’s Chief Medical Officer Darryl Sleep, M.D.
And remember: When you share, you’re not alone.
I think you would like Amgen to be aquired by a big pharma company within a year. Its suspicious when you suspend having the Amgen California tour 2020 race and eliminating all of Neuroscience and R&D in Cambridge. Hope you enjoy being in-the 3 comma club .
