Dealing with Job-Search Depression

No alt text provided for this image

So in search for jobs job-seekers especially graduates at times hit rock bottom and in turn get stressed and eventually end up depressed. Too concerned with getting out of that state they either lose focus or end up doing what they never wanted to do in the first place or better still get more depressed.

Depression falls under 1 of the three categories of stress namely eustress(positive stress the kind of pressure you get when all is well),nuestress(when something doesn't affect you at all e.g the promotion of the guy in another country you have never met...you don't react to it) and finally distress where depression emanates from.

Distress is a negative form of stress where you feel you can't possibly solve the current problem you have (which might be unemployment) and you don't have the correct tools to use(maybe vacancies & the skills and experience stated in most adverts and a lot more).

You end up depressed, feeling low and a bit jealous over others who seem to get jobs and as if it can't get any worse when you are depressed a lot of folks you know seem to get their jobs and you know why? Because you sink more into the sulking state you lose focus, you don't revamp your CV, join as many app vacancies groups, go online to see what your academic possibilities are or create professional accounts on platforms like LinkedIn & network (it's not the only one but start somewhere) and others, network also with people in your industry. Depression is real it's got a lot of negative influence on people and the best way to beat it is maintain the positivity.

Every successful individual at some point was unemployed it's nothing new what's different is they made themselves relevant by volunteering, getting more skills but never stopped looking for a job...do the same and see!

Stop comparing, stop undermining your potential, get a better view on your opportunities and be ready to conquer your chosen field of work.

Best Wishes!!!!??

Job search depression is real and should be taken seriously . People should try and reach out to unemployed friends.
