In today's world, the issues surrounding mental health can not be underrated.
The declining economies, imbalance in family communities to mention a few, can impact so much on people's abilities in the professional world. No one says our personal lives should excuse mediocrity, but it does affect our daily performance. This is no exception when it comes to candidates who have to keep looking for better job opportunities to meet up with their professional desires...and personal needs
Lets imagine a situation... as a recruiter you are looking at good CV and are expectant when you schedule to meet your ideal candidate. All the times are set, the day arrives... and you find out that he cant get a proper word out in the interview. He is sweating all over, asking the same question you just asked again; asking for a drink of water or complaining about the room temperature. These are are not uncommon when a candidate is trying to get comfortable in the room.
We all know the best thing to do, is to be the best recruiter and make the candidate feel at home. Just enough to tell you what they have been doing with their time at work!

As frustrating as it may, sometimes that moment never comes ; one may feel somewhat underwhelmed. So what next... How do you empathize with someone, who came for an interview because he desperately needs new income to support a new born, or needs to leave his current job which is far less income, but cant stay calm enough to present himself congruently, due to personal life issues.
Well, it may shock you to know...there is little you can do as a recruiter to help this situation as it may(maybe a psychologist but not a recruiter *wink ) But ensure the person doesn't feel worse when he leaves the room. Many recruiters will give instant feedback, confronting the fears or just letting the person leave the room far more depressed and anxious than he came.
I totally believe its better to let the person know he had far more to offer than he was able to showcase and just encourage a better performance or letting off a good smile while rejecting him from his dream job. You never know what his next reaction will be when he leaves you. This article to to bring to us a bare requirement to tolerate that low performing candidate, a little more, without rushing them off for committing the "great crime" of wasting our time. Sometimes there may be bigger things at stake, from being unkind.
