Dealing with Covid

Hi All,

I want to share my experience dealing with Covid and all the things I have learned in the last few days. This is an attempt to get everyone together and work in solution mode. India needs each and every one of us to come together and help and support each other in these extremely challenging times. Hope you will read this till the end.

Step 0 - Hear what a renowned doctor has to say

Step 1 - Understand the problem

As per some mathematical models, the actual daily case count in India could be as much as 30 times the number that is reported. This means we may be adding as much as 1 Crore cases a day right now and that there is an urgent need to break this chain. Do not meet any friends/relatives. Step out only for essentials. Whenever you have to interact with another human being, wear a double cloth mask or N95 mask.

Step 2 - Help yourself proactively

The following steps will be helpful if you have NO symptoms of Covid

1. Take steam twice a day.

2. Drink kaadha twice a day - or consume tulsi, ginger, haldi, long, etc daily.

3. Take ample sleep and rest.

4. Take Zinc, Vitamin D, Vitamin C, B-complex every day.

5. Take Chyawanprash (I prefer organic India) every day.

Step 3 - What if you have COVID like symptoms

1. Immediately isolate and try to get a RTPCR test done

2. Get in touch with a doctor and start the prescribed treatment

3. Do all the things suggested in Step 2 to help build your immunity

4. Monitor your O2 level every 3 hours. It should always be over 94% - if lower than 94%, contact your doctor.

5. Do the pneumonia test - walk for 6 minutes and then measure O2 again - it should still be over 94%

6. Do not panic if you cannot get hold of Fabiflu etc - its effectiveness is still questionable

7. Do breathing techniques if you feel shortness of breath - examples here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBkGDIeQwXo, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=opPZpART0mE

8. Think of Hospitalization as last resort - we do not have the resources and we don't know how much bad exposure we can get at the hospital

9. If you are quarantined alone and don't have family/friends nearby - pls talk to your family, friends on video call proactively. You need human company - don't shy away from it.

Step 4 - Taking care of a loved one

1. Monitor their vitals often.

2. Ensure they are properly fed & rested & taking all the immunity-boosting measures.

3. Keep the mood light - send them jokes/memes and talk to them often.

4. Keep compiling some resources - if needed let them know where they can get oxygen, beds, etc.

5. Reassure them that they will get better soon. Humans crave even more human connection in these tough times.

6. Exercise caution when coming in close contact with them - wear N95 masks if you are coming close to them and sanitize yourself after every close contact.

Step 5 - General empathy/help to humanity

1. Join this telegram group - it has updated resources city-wise and lot of activity - https://t.me/covid19helpinfo

2. Each and every family in India is dealing with this tsunami - please be empathetic towards your co-workers & team members - do not expect 100% output at this hour - surviving the next month is the biggest task at hand right now.

3. If you know anyone who has covid, go to step 4 and take some of the measures

4. Get involved in any on-ground help that you can - arranging beds, gathering information of resources, preparing food for people in isolation, etc - only people can help people at this time - let's not expect too much from the Government

5. Get vaccinated as soon as you can.

I hope that collectively we will tide through this crisis - our unity is our strength. The virus divides us physically, but emotionally we can be united and help the country overcome this crisis.
