Dealerware Celebrates Women’s History Month!
March is Women’s History Month!
Women make up more than half of the retail customer base, with Forbes reporting that women buy 62% of vehicles today and influence 85% of car-buying decisions. However, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only 27% of roles in the auto sector are held by women and less than that in positions of leadership.?
The automotive industry is at the forefront of innovative ideas and technologies. Electric vehicles, autonomous drive, online car purchasing, ride-sharing, and vehicle monitoring software are just some of the ways the industry is expanding transportation options and pushing the needle forward.?
This is an exciting industry to be a part of– but why aren’t more women kicking the tires?
?It’s important to encourage women to seek out a great career in the automotive sector and to create a culture where women feel supported as they navigate their careers. We want to bring women in to help us continue to create, adapt, and innovate with a broader range of perspectives in this traditionally male-dominated space.???
There is a lot of work to be done to close the gap between the number of women in the industry and the number of women buying cars today. Industry leaders should ensure their teams and business reflect their customer base. In recent years, OEMs, auto groups, and dealerships have increased their efforts to hire, retain, mentor, and promote women.
Throughout the month of March, we will be featuring a few of the women that make up the team here at Dealerware. We want to celebrate women and encourage a dialogue around ways the auto industry can work toward gender equity in the workplace. Stay tuned!
