Deaf Awareness Week 2024
What a week! Deaf Awareness Week took us across London and Essex with our staff and ambassadors attending and promoting #deafawareness at captioned theatre shows throughout the week.
From Wyndham’s Theatre to Battersea Arts Centre, Yvonne Arnaud Theatre and the Kiln Theatre we spoke to visitors and members of the audience about making the arts accessible to people who are deaf, deafened and hard of hearing. Thanks to ambassadors Eddie Cleere and Jeremy Freeman for your support! There were also events showcasing live subtitles - did you catch any of the talks at the The British Academy or The Royal Society ?
We also welcomed arts and culture guests from across the region to a networking drinks reception to learn more about deaf access. What better way to showcase what we do than invite them to enjoy a captioned show of Midsummer at the Mercury Theatre?
And it's still not over yet. Don't forget we have a free webinar on subtitles: Everything you wanted to know about subtitling (but were afraid to ask) which runs on Thursday 16th May.
If you'd like to find out more about deaf access to the arts, take a look at what we do and how we help advocate for better accessibility. https://www.stagetext.org/
