DE Monthly - January 2024

Welcome to the first edition of DE Monthly, keeping you up to date with recent industry news, events and more!

Industry Roundup

Concerns raised around the depletion of stockpiles following donations of ammunition to Ukraine and Israel are ongoing. Several countries are moving to secure their ammunition production and stockpiles, with the UK reportedly ordering an 'eight-fold' increase in 155mm shell production from BAE Systems. Mid last month Finland resolved to double ammunition production with the construction of new factories.

Released today, the UK's Critical Imports and Supply Chain Strategy is set to help industry in multiple sectors better anticipate disruption, during turbulent times for geopolitics and trade amid Houthi rebel attacks, wars in Ukraine and Israel, climate change efforts, and rising tensions in the Asia-Pacific. "Our mission is to support businesses through these changes, build resilient supply chains and maintain supplies of the critical goods", Nusrat Ghani MP, Minister for Business and Trade.

Finally, the US Department of Defense (DOD) set out its first-ever Defense Industrial Strategy last week, seeking to guide DOD resource distribution, 'creating a modern, resilient defense ecosystem designed to deter US adversaries and meet the production demands posed by evolving threats'. Key priorities include: 'diversifying the industrial base, expanding production methods and addressing evolving cyber threats.'
