DDR

DDR stands for Double Data Rate. It's a type of memory technology used in computers, specifically in RAM (Random Access Memory). DDR memory transfers data on both the rising and falling edges of the clock signal, effectively doubling the data transfer rate compared to the older SDR (Single Data Rate) memory[1][2].

There have been several generations of DDR memory, each improving on speed, efficiency, and power consumption:

  • DDR (DDR1): Introduced in 2000, it was the first generation of DDR memory.
  • DDR2: Released in 2003, it offered faster speeds and lower power consumption than DDR1.
  • DDR3: Came out in 2007, further increasing speed and efficiency.
  • DDR4: Launched in 2014, it provided even higher speeds and better power efficiency.
  • DDR5: The latest, released in 2020, offers significant improvements in speed and efficiency over DDR4[1][2].
