Program Area Updates?

Behavioral Research?

Stigma is a complex social process that has an impact on cancer survivors around the world. In this new Spotlight Blog, authors from the National Cancer Institute's (NCI) Center for Global Health and Division of Cancer Control and Population Sciences (DCCPS) discuss the Institute's efforts to support researchers and practitioners in advancing the field of cancer stigma research. Read more at https://www.cancer.gov/about-nci/organization/cgh/blog/2024/global-cancer-stigma-research.

Epidemiology and Genomics?

The Epidemiology and Genomics Research Program (EGRP) publishes a monthly newsletter, EGRP Cancer Epidemiology News. The August issue featured several NCI funding opportunities available to senior postdoctoral fellows or faculty-level candidates. These K awards support career development, including a mentored research scientist development award for early career researchers working in cancer control and population sciences. EGRP’s monthly newsletters also include links to other NCI and NIH funding opportunities, prize competitions, grants policy announcements, requests for information, and more that may be of interest.?To read EGRP’s recent newsletters, and to subscribe, please visit https://epi.grants.cancer.gov/news/.

Health Disparities and Health Equity?

DCCPS promotes and conducts health equity research that identifies and addresses the mechanisms contributing to disparities across the cancer control continuum and throughout the human lifespan. For the 17th AACR Conference on The Science of Cancer Health Disparities in Racial/Ethnic Minorities and the Medically Underserved (September 21-24, 2024), we put together a sampling of key documents from DCCPS. View them at https://cancercontrol.cancer.gov/AACR.

Healthcare Delivery Research?

NCI is seeking a leader with a proven track record in innovation to serve as the Associate Director (AD) within the Healthcare Delivery Research Program (HDRP) in DCCPS. The HDRP AD reports directly to the Director, DCCPS. The HDRP AD coordinates the development and implementation of the mission of the HDRP to advance innovative research to improve the delivery of cancer-related care, thereby improving the health for individuals and populations. Implementation Science?

In the United States, awareness about the risks of climate change to human health remains fairly low, as demonstrated by results from the?2022 NCI Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS). This is where communication science, in coordination with implementation science, can play a role in the policy implementation process. Increasing knowledge and awareness about climate change can lead to the increased public engagement and public support needed to advance climate-friendly policy support and implementation. Read the whole blog, “Communication Science for Advancing Policy Implementation—the Case of Climate Change,” in the September issue of Dispatches from Implementation Science at NCI at https://cancercontrol.cancer.gov/is/about/blog/communication-science-advancing-policy-implementation-case-climate-change.

Surveillance?

New Data Alert! The Cancer Trends Progress Report now includes incidence data through 2021 and mortality data through 2022. Pages with updated data are Incidence, Stage at Diagnosis, Survival, Mortality, and Years of Life Lost. See the most recent data available at https://progressreport.cancer.gov/. The Cancer Trends Progress Report, continually updated since its first issue in 2001, summarizes our nation's advances against cancer in relation to Healthy People targets set forth by the Department of Health and Human Services. The report, intended for policy makers, researchers, and public health professionals, includes key measures of progress along the cancer control continuum and uses national trend data to illustrate where improvements have been made and where attention is demanded.
