DC50: Truth and the power of words

DC50: Truth and the power of words

Words are not truth

Words represent ideas, actions, and our inner world. We use words to bridge the gap between what is on the inside of you to connect to the inside of me. They are not real. They are like a map that represents the terrain. They are not the terrain.

We are multi-dimensional beings with multiple aspects such as our physical form, our emotional feeling system, our mental conceptual world, and our energetic body. We have different vocabularies and modalities for expressing each system. ?

Words are used to convey a representation of these systems to others.

We have excellent vocabularies for the mental and physical realms but only partial and incomplete vocabularies for the others.

Being a powerful source of change requires good communication and that means having a good grasp of words and how to use them.

Stories

Stories have been used to convey complex realities for thousands of years. Good stories tend to be multi-layered. They meet us where we are at and take us to where we want to go. As we are all in different places, a good story is able to bridge a range of different people with different realities and make sense to them all.

A good example of this are modern family films from Disney, Pixar, etc, that have a story line for adults AND a story line for children. Different people take different things from the story, and it makes sense to everyone, even though that sense making is actually different for each range of person.

Change Programs

A change program is a story. It is not the change, just like words are not reality. A change program is a map not the terrain.

A change program can be for an organisation, a single person, or a relationship.

Just like any good story it must meet you where you are now. The challenge is that everyone is somewhere different. There is no one starting point. A good change program must be multi-layered and scoop up most people.

Knowing the range of people that you want to reach and meet is essential in crafting a good change story and a methodology of moving from one place to another.

Who are you changing?

Remember, words are not truth. They represent ‘a’ truth not ‘the’ truth. Each person on the journey is going to want their truth. This is unlikely to be your truth.

Truth is subjective because it is represented through the human mind and experience. Therefore, a story must be broad enough to capture most of your audiences’ truths.

Luckily, instead of having to find out everyone’s truth, which is impossible, it is possible to discern ‘fields of truth’.

Field of truth

What is your truth?

What do you believe?

Let’s take an interesting question… What do you think of other people?

I’m talking about people in general, globally. What do you think of them? What are they like?

No, ‘that depends’ doesn’t cut it. We are exploring truth here. (smiles)

Do you believe people are good or bad? Is it that simple? Are their contexts of where people are good and bad? Take a second to explore that internally.

As you start to uncover your belief system, you can then try a little experiment. Try reading the front page of the BBC news website. It is a daily digest of murder, rapes, injustices, wars, and political errors. Do you still have the same belief system as before?

Try reading a few articles on Positive News, a small independent news outlet that reports facts about how our world and the people in it are actually doing. Now how do you feel? Is your truth the same?

It is likely that new ideas and concepts have arisen that combine, deepen, and modify your truth.

Instead of thinking of truth as a single thing, try thinking of truth as a field of awareness that you have that interacts with your mental, physical, emotional, and energetic fields that make up who you are.

Everyone has this, and they are all different.

Luckily, as it turns out, they are not all that different…
