DBS Volunteers clean up in the community
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
We help employers make safer recruitment decisions, and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups.
As an organisation, DBS offers colleagues up to 3 days per year to dedicate to volunteering. Last year, DBS colleagues provided 594 hours, over 80 days, of volunteering, helping their local communities in a variety of ways.
DBS recently ran a Volunteer Day, to encourage staff to use their allocated days and make a difference in their local community. A group of DBS colleagues volunteered at Christ Church and Holy Trinity in Walton Breck, Liverpool, taking care of the grounds.
The church is an integral part of the community, providing invaluable help and support to local people. The church hosts parent and toddler’s clubs, holiday and after-school clubs, parenting classes, Brownies and the Boys’ Brigade, and is also a food bank.
However, these essential services can only be provided if the church and its grounds are accessible and safe to use. This is where volunteers from DBS stepped in to provide a helping hand.
Volunteers set to work – clearing rubbish, pulling up weeds, and mowing overgrown grass. The church grounds are now neat and tidy and ready to continue to serve the local community.
Heather Holding, Christ Church and Holy Trinity’s Family Outreach Worker, said:?
“We would just like to say a huge thank you to the team from DBS who came last week to help the Church tidy up its gardens. What you did in a day we probably couldn't have got done in a month and so we're really grateful.?
“It was a lovely team, and we wish you all the best in any future volunteer days - we have really gained from it.”
