DBS is cycling from Liverpool to Darlington to raise money for Zoe's Place

In an effort to raise money for Zoe’s Place, a Hospice that supports babies and young children who have complex illnesses or disabilities from birth to age five, the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and CGI have committed to a Cycle and Step challenge, hoping to complete a massive 142 miles (228 km) each, the distance between the DBS' Liverpool and Darlington offices.

The challenge is taking place today, 27th November, over 8 hours, in which teams from DBS and CGI will battle it out on bikes and on foot, in a race to (virtually) reach Darlington first!

The challenge is being held both on location in CGI offices in Mann Island in Liverpool on exercise bikes, as well as remotely, with participants tracking their own bike rides or walks with step counters.

Lisa Bolger, from DBS’ Chairman and CEO Office directorate, said:

“I run the Social Value Initiatives for Technology and Innovation and this is the first event of its kind, but we’ve done a few things with CGI, such as litter picks around Liverpool City Centre. CGI are one of our strategic suppliers so events like this are about building better relationships and also raising money for a good cause. We’ve been wanting to do something for Zoe’s Place after seeing their financial difficulties in the news.”

As of 11:20am, Team DBS had reached 38 miles, with CGI slightly behind at 37 miles but there’s still a long way to go to reach Darlington!
