DAZN to acquire Foxtel Group, Taskforce for Creative Industries announced, MIP London aiming for 1,500+ registrants, plus more news...
1. Sports streaming service DAZN is acquiring Australian pay-TV broadcaster Foxtel Group from its majority shareholder News Corp and minority shareholder Telstra at an enterprise value of US$2.2 billion.
With the takeover, which is subject to regulatory approval, DAZN significantly expands its operations in Australia, bringing the group’s pro-forma revenues towards US$6 billion. Foxtel is one of Australia’s leading media companies with 4.7 million subscribers.
Under the terms of the transaction, News Corp and Telstra will become minority shareholders in DAZN. News Corp will hold a minority equity interest in DAZN of approximately 6% as well as one seat on the DAZN board. Telstra will take a minority stake in DAZN of around 3%.

2. The UK Government’s Department for Culture, Media and Sport has announced the members of its Creative Industries Taskforce.
Set up in November with the aim of informing the government’s strategy to unlock growth in the creative sector, the taskforce met for the first time on Wednesday 18th December.
Co-chaired by Baroness Shriti Vadera and Sir Peter Bazalgette, the group features tech entrepreneurs, investors and academics, with Sir William Sargent, Philippa Childs, Lynn Barber and Tom Adeyoola representing the TV industry.

The taskforce is helping to develop the government’s Creative Industries Sector Plan.
Creative Industries Minister Sir Chris Bryant said, “Our world-leading creative industries, which are worth £125 billion to the economy and employ millions of people, were identified as a key growth-driving sector in the government’s Industrial Strategy. The sector will have a critical role to play in helping us deliver the mission of this government to drive economic growth into all of our towns and cities. This taskforce will be central to achieving that goal, by helping to draw up a bold and ambitious Sector Plan which will enable further growth and innovation in the creative industries by unlocking private investment, boosting exports and developing our highly skilled creative workforce.”

3. Titan OS, the technology, entertainment and advertising company, has announced a partnership with CNN International Commercial to expand its content offering with two new channels. CNN Fast will be available across the UK, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Norway and the CNN International channel can be watched in UK and Germany.
Titan OS’s channel lineup is currently accessible on Philips Smart TVs powered by its operating system and on selected Sony Android TVs, where it offers a curated selection of FAST channels.

4. MIP LONDON?director Lucy Smith said "over 700 people are already registered and we’re hopeful of landing somewhere between 1,500 to 2,000" for the inaugural event in February. She also insisted it is not a direct replacement for the axed MIPTV in Cannes: “What we were listening to, and hearing, was that people wanted something different. There was a need for a meeting at the beginning of the year, and when you looked at what was going on in London, it felt like that is where the distribution business has moved to at that time."

5. Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios has appointed Ludovic Attal as Head of Brand Partnerships for its European originals. Head of International Originals, James Farrell, told staff: “The addition of ads in Prime Video has widened the aperture of how we can work with premium brands around the world in terms of sponsorships and integrations, and it is critical that the Studio be able to collaborate with our colleagues at both Amazon Ads and Prime Video Advertising in this endeavour.”
