These are Dayton's top 50 employers in 2024

Dayton employers have fought through the ever-changing workforce climate with perseverance and determination over the last few years.

Although it may be a period many have grown tired of hearing about four years later, the Covid-19 pandemic rocked the market – causing a chain reaction of challenges companies have been forced to confront. As each year brought a new challenge or exacerbated issue, executives have come together, sharing insights and strategies.

The DBJ reveals its 2024 Dayton-Area Employers List.

The current topic which remains a top concern for employers in 2024 is workforce. While unemployment levels are at an extreme low, the exponential growth many businesses have witnessed in recent years has caused a major gap in employment as demand far outweighs supply.

Despite the struggle, Dayton employers extending a hand for new workers are, in fact, finding employees to take their hand.

The region’s top 50 employers reported more than 80,000 local employees. Employment increases surpassed 1,300 between the 2023 and 2024 report. And many are still looking, with local companies already reporting adding another 2,300 jobs in 2024.

As employers seek to attract their set of workers, the struggle to retain existing workforce remains equally challenging. Keeping employees engaged amid quiet quitting; staying attentive to competitive wages; and upskilling lower-level employees has proven quite the difficult balancing act.

But Dayton employers are not deterred, finding their own strategies to stand proud in the market, working to pull potential workers away from major metros to the charming, more affordable region.

In this special section, centered around regional employers, the Dayton Business Journal gathered insights from a wide range of companies to determine what the market demands in 2024 and how local companies are keeping up and standing out.
