Daymond John: The Entrepreneur's Greatest Asset is Not What You Think

Personal branding didn’t start with social media or the advent of the Internet.

It started with people. And stories. And the desire to be taken on a journey.

It's something Daymond John?knows very well (being a Brooklyn/Queens kid like me) long before FUBU and Shark Tank were part of his life.

Daymond grew up with a single parent, his remarkable mom, working three jobs to give him a future.

But it was his exposure to different people of different ethnicities and professions that exposed him to different lifestyles, different ways of seeing the world, and the infinite stories in it.

PERSONAL BRANDING: GIVING BIRTH TO OUR LEGACY IN THE WORLD

FUBU became Daymond’s personal brand anchor, and Shark Tank became the platform to make him a household name serving as his personal branding amplifier.

But personal branding wasn’t about personal power for Daymond to become a media celebrity or business mogul.

From my discussions with Daymond and seeing his values always at the core of every decision I’ve seen him make, it was always:

The personal empowerment of seeing different people succeeding in ways he never thought possible.

This is where legacy comes in.

It’s how Daymond came to write the Foreword to my #1 Amazon bestseller,?Brand Intervention .

YOUR GREATEST ASSET AS AN ENTREPRENEUR: GIVING UNTIL YOU FEEL IT

What personal branding will do is give birth to your personal brand legacy in the world, which will allow you to?give back with a passion that only personal empowerment can bring about.

And?that?is your greatest asset: personal empowerment that you can give to others.

So when I recently created a “coin” to give people who were attending a conference I was keynoting at, I wrote Daymond and told him I wanted to give him one in return for the?Presidential Ambassador for Global Entrepreneurship medallion?he’d given to me previously.

While Daymond’s personal brand is enormous, it’s his legacy of helping people that is worth more than any personal branding alone could ever produce.

This is why I value the relationship we have more than anything.

Use your presence and your personal branding to leave a legacy that enriches the lives and careers of others.
