Wired interface

Wired communications subsystem may be used in place of wireless in areas that may have higher levels of construction material or other RF interfaces. In some systems, a CAT5 cable is used as a proprietary LAN connection to a master controller. In this case the daylight harvester may also be powered over the cable in a technique similar to power-over-Ethernet (PoE). Digital processing

The digital processing subsystem consists of a microcontroller (MPU) that processes ambient light and temp data from sensors and packets the data for communication, and handles the wireless communications. Wireless interface

Wireless interface subsystem consists of a multi-standard radio with integrated, multi-core microcontroller that independently handles time-critical protocol processing. Common standards used are ZigBee, sub-1GHz or Wi-Fi. BLE is sometimes used in smaller rooms where dimming control units are nearby. This MCU may also be used to process the light and temp sensor data, replacing the need for a second. Sensing

The sensing subsystem includes ambient light sensor to provide daylight brightness data (open loop system) and/or room brightness data (closed loop system) to the MCU for communication to the dimming controller and LED driver. The data may also be used to control window blinds. The subsystem may also include temp sensor for further environmental control if the daylight is causing additional heating.
