Welcome to #Day02 of Azure Stack Hub session. Today, we'll understand about the Edge and Disconnected solutions in Azure Stack Hub.
- It's imperative to learn and understand the design of the disconnected solutions, it refers to scenarios where the AZ stack hub (Cabinet or a unit scale) is not connected to the internet or other external networks.
- This can occur in situations where there is limited or no network connectivity available, such as in remote or disconnected places.
- If you're deploying AZ stack hub in a remote location without internet connectivity, you might need to use disconnected solutions to deploy applications.
- In such kind of scenarios, AZ stack hub can still be able to provide the cloud services. The scenarios include challenging, remote or any specialized environments.
- Here are few disconnected solutions that can be leveraged on AZ stack hub:
- Azure Stack Hub data box - It's a physical appliance that you can use to transfer data to and from AZ stack hub. When you have large sets of data, then think about this data box solution.
- Azure Stack Hub app service - It usually provides a platform for building, deploying, and managing web applications/APIs on AZ stack hub.
- Marketplace Syndication etc...!
Do you think we've limitations of using AZ stack hub in a disconnected environment? Yes, obviously!
- Limited or no access to the internet.
- Extremely limited options for updates and patches.
- The edge solutions are designed for scenarios where you need to deploy applications and services closer to the users or devices that are accessing them.
- This can be useful in scenarios where the users or devices are in remote or in scenarios where low-latency access to data is critical.
- Here, we've got an example i.e. Azure Stack Edge. Azure Stack Edge is a hybrid cloud appliance that brings the Azure cloud capabilities/services to the edge. It provides storage, compute, and AI capabilities to customer premises to enable edge compute scenarios.
- Few more examples like - Azure Stack Hub IoT Hub, Azure Stack Hub Kubernetes etc...!
Why it's more important for you to understand what Azure Stack Hub is NOT?
a) It's NOT a replacement of any on-premises private cloud. But it will help you offer the public cloud-operating model in your own datacenter.
b) it's NOT a fully independent cloud platform.
c) it's NOT a one-size-fits-all-solution.
That's all for today, #connections, you can dig more and appreciate if you can share the contents that are related to this. Thank you and Happy Learning!
