“The Day you plant the seed is not the day you eat the fruit”

In August 2018, I got a Facebook message from a young man named Baskar who identified himself as hailing from the rural parts of Erode & want to start a career in Security. He said he had completed his graduation in Criminology & is pursuing his Masters through Distance education. I told him that better opportunities are in Metro cities like Chennai, if he can come over – then I can guide him. Then there was no connect for 2.5 months and then one day (Nov,2018) I got a call from Baskar that he has arrived in Chennai couple of weeks back, has already joined as an ‘Escort Security guard’ in Cognizant. I was amazed at his thirst for learning & his attitude towards learning the skill from scratch – How many of our current graduates or Masters students will be ready to be a Security guard to start a career, this person took me by surprise. I met him once and appreciated him for his committed approach, told him to be patient and keep learning every day. He used to do his night shifts as Escort guard & kept reading lot of relevant stuff relating to Security & Criminology. In May 2019, there was an opportunity in a company in Chennai Airport for ‘Loss Prevention Associate’ and through one of my friends in the industry (also a Criminologist) – I referred him for this vacancy. Baskar grabbed this opportunity, elevated himself to a new role and continued his learning. Today I met him for the 2nd time only – I’m amazed to see the confidence in him, the skills he has learnt and how he has understood the very importance of the God given opportunities.

Wait……the story doesn’t end here – today I asked him on how he got connected to me last year. Baskar told me that he met one of the Criminologist from Trinelveli University who informed him that I had given a lecture on opportunities in Corporate Security (on 16th August, 2012) in his University & he has shared my contact with Baskar. I met this person exactly 7 yrs since that day of the lecture in MS University,Trinelveli & while on the way back to Coimbatore that night, we met with a car crash which lead to our beloved Dad’s passing away from us. I often tell students, juniors and my friends – do not judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the SEEDS that you plant. I was awestruck by God’s revelations through this meeting with Baskar and humbled by the journey God has planned for each one of us.
