Day Two: SMT Organisational Culture and Strategy Alignment Workshop Attaining Our Targets & Assessing Our Impact
Department of Infrastructure Development (DID)
The trusted provider of integrated and SMART public infrastructure and property management solutions in Gauteng
The HoD for Infrastructure Development, Masabata Mutlaneng led day two of the Senior Management Team (SMT) in an Organisational Culture and Strategy Alignment workshop, that focused on distilling and collating final inputs towards the formulation of our 2025-2030 strategic plan. HoD Mutlaneng said, “Let’s make today count. We need to put more emphasis on the areas that need to be improved. We need to interrogate our performance with a view to improving and ensuring our targets are obtained effectively. ?Premier Lesufi made pronouncements in the Province’s State of the Province Address (SoPA). We need to go back and review those mandates. We need to know how to assess our impact. We need to ask ourselves the question of how do we deliver and for whom are we delivering? Let’s hone our inputs to enhance this strategic document. Let’s think about the reason why DID was established and what it means for our mandates. We must take lead and guide everyone inclusively.”
Focus areas included the alignment of the Department of Infrastructure Development’s (DID) mandate, the MediumTerm Development Plan (MTDP), the revisioning of the Department’s mission and vision and the framework for ?performance measurement. The acting DDG for Corporate Service, Wesley Jacobs said “The value of this workshop lies with shaping our plans and targets for the next five years by delivering quality infrastructure that has an impact on the lives of the communities of Gauteng”. According to the DDG for Property Management, Neo Morake, “This gives us the opportunity to go back to the drawing board as the Department. We have heard the voices of our Client Departments on how they experience us. It is now upon us to reorganise ourselves to ensure that we are able to adopt a customer centric delivery model. It is critical that we are also able to measure the impact that we have in our communities and our impact in supporting our Client Departments to deliver to their core mandates”. The DDG for Health Infrastructure, Realeboga Mahapa said “ This session gives us time to reflect on the outcomes of the strategic planning and for the Department to focus on the health and wellness aspect for Senior Managers.”
Yesterday, Day One of the workshop covered the alignment of our Information and Communications Technology (ICT) capabilities with the evolving needs of infrastructure programmes, stakeholders and our broader vision for the future. Senior Managers robustly engaged on our Service Delivery Model, Organisational Structure and Strategic Risk Assessments. According to HoD Mutlaneng, “We are committed to reposition the Department as a more data-centric, economically impactful and transparent DID. We need to think of ourselves broadly as the implementing agent of choice and commit ourselves to our improved service offering”.
The HoD Mutlaneng emphasised the importance of strong organisational culture and the importance of fostering a flourishing organisational culture in alignment with the DID’s goals to improve productivity, employee satisfaction and positive change. HoD reflected on some of our recent strides including the launch and implementation of the iDEP (Infrastructure Delivery Platform). This system will ensure that the DID is able to mitigate challenges and delays experienced in the completion and delivery of infrastructure projects including schools, hospitals, clinics and libraries in Gauteng.
