THIS DAY TODAY

I wish history had gone another way a year ago, and countless people would have happily lived ordinary lives.
February 24, 2022, will be remembered as a full-scale invasion of Ukraine, but it is NOT a day when the war started. It started nine years ago!
A year ago, in my Chicago Tribune interview, I said:
I am not sure what’s going to happen in the next couple of days, but I hope that slowly but surely we will defeat the aggressor and I hope it’s going to end at some point.
I’m pretty sure they will fight until they can’t breathe. At some point it will end. But I hope it doesn’t take a long time. And a lot of casualties.
Why was I so sure that Ukraine would not surrender? Because it's not the first time Ukrainians have needed to fight for their freedom. History knows of countless moments when Ukrainians took a fight instead of surrendering. I have a 75-page book that lists dates when the Ukrainian language was banned or pressured. The list starts in 1626 and ends in 2012!
Some people in the US don't realize that what happens on the other side of the globe will affect their lives. One video I recommend watching for those who want to clarify what is happening in Ukraine is this most recent Timothy Snyder interview.
Never give up! Never surrender! ???? ? ????
