Day of the Seafarers in 2022 | E-PORTS Let you Know about the Day of the Seafarers
Day of the Seafarers was named at the diplomatic conference of the contracting parties to the International Convention on standards of training, certification and watchkeeping for seafarers (STCW Convention) held by the International Maritime Organization in Manila, Philippines, on June 25,2010. This festival was established to encourage governments and shipping organizations to pay tribute to seafarers, thank them for their contributions to mankind and the world, take measures to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of seafarers, and attract more people interested in the cause of navigation.
This year is the 12th time that we have come together to celebrate the Day of the Seafarers. Since its establishment, this festival has always been the focus of public attention. We cannot ignore the contribution of seafarers to globalization, and we have always thanked seafarers for their hard work. Every seaman's day, IMO will establish a theme to thank the seamen from different angles and provide them with better working conditions. Do you know what the theme of every seaman's Day is? What is the exclusive meaning behind the annual theme? Let's review the theme of the annual day of the Seafarers with the E-PORTS' editor~
2011 Campaign Thank you seafarers!
It emphasizes the fact that shipping is the driving force of global economic development. Shipping accounts for more than 90% of the global trade volume, and seafarers ensure the smooth engine and deliver the commodities and goods necessary for our lives. The activities also include live broadcast and interaction of seafarers' on-board operations. Everyone is encouraged to send a smile and a simple and powerful message to the seafarers: "thank you, seafarers!"
2012 Campaign It came by sea, I can't live without it!
IMO calls on people to participate in activities through the Internet and other forms. Don't spare our praise - 1.5 million seafarers around the world have made unique contributions to our well-being, but their contributions are often ignored by people. Seaman's Day gives us the opportunity to express our gratitude to the seamen - we cannot live without their dedication.
2013 Campaign Faces of the Sea
The IMO hopes to focus public attention on seafarers and their sacrifices for the normal operation of the world economy. This activity is aimed at any individual working in the maritime industry, and promotes companies to recognize the role of seafarers in their operations and supply chain, and to be responsible for the welfare of seafarers.
2014 Campaign Thank you seafarers
IMO asked everyone to choose a word to complete this sentence, and sent it to social media with the label "salute the seafarer". The filled words can be anything transported by sea: eat, wear, use, and spend. On this day, all the participants should take action together, stop and thank the sailors who worked hard and faced difficulties to improve the lives of others.
2015 Campaign Why not consider a career at sea?
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has launched a marine life sharing activity to help solve the future shortage of seafarers by publicizing and highlighting the benefits of choosing a marine career. IMO launched an online photo wall activity, inviting people around the world to show what they think is the best photos showing seafarers and other marine careers.
2016 Campaign At Sea for All
The theme emphasizes that seafarers work at sea not only for the shipping industry and their own careers, but also for the world.
Let us extend our holiday greetings to the seafarers who are struggling to fight on the vast blue ocean, and express our heartfelt thanks to the seafarers for their great contributions to promoting the development of the national economy and the improvement of people's living standards! At the same time, we also call on all sectors of society to pay more attention to seafarers!
2017 Campaign Seafarers Matter
IMO hopes that participating ports and seafarers' clubs can express how important seafarers are to them by sharing and showing their support and benefits to seafarers. It also appeals to all people in the shipping industry and the public to express their gratitude to seafarers by supporting this campaign, and it is very important to know seafarers.
2018 Campaign Seafarers wellbeing
By solving seafarers' welfare problems, especially mental health problems, this activity can provide specific programs and methods to reduce the sources of stress of seafarers' mental status and solve other problems, and make these methods more widely known.
2019 Campaign Get on board with gender equality at seaEmphasizing women's employment opportunities in the broader maritime field, especially in the seaman profession, this move also echoes the theme of IMO's "World Maritime Day" this year, "empowering women in the maritime sector", and aims to promote gender equality awareness in the shipping sector. IMO and the International Labour Organization (ILO) have been committed to the fair employment of seafarers, especially female seafarers, on board ships, and to eliminating discrimination against female seafarers in employment.
2020 Campaign Seafarers Are Key WorkersCalls upon Member States to recognize seafarers as key workers and to provide them with the support, assistance and shifts that all key workers should receive during the COVID-19 pandemic. All people are encouraged to show due respect to seafarers and to express gratitude for their continued provision of vital services under such severe circumstances in order to maintain the development of world trade.
2021 Campaign Fair Future for Seafarers
The Day of the Seafarers in 2021 will continue to encourage governments to provide support to seafarers during the epidemic, and on this basis, call for a fair future for seafarers. Day of the Seafarers in 2021 will provide a platform to advocate for a better working environment and invite seafarers to share their views on the future of navigation. A short questionnaire will be issued before the arrival of seafarers' day to collect seafarers' feedback on what is a fair future.
2022 Campaign Your voyage - then and now, share your journey
Each seafarer's journey is different, but they all face similar challenges. The theme of Day of the Seafarers in 2022 focuses on Seafarers' Sailing journey, including how navigation has evolved over time and what is the core of seafarers' real needs. Day of the Seafarers gives seafarers the opportunity to share their current interests, whether it is the unresolved crew shift crisis or the new shipping technology in the future.
If you were a crew member, did you find how different your first voyage was from your last one? The crew members are welcome to send the comparative photos to the editor. The editor will summarize these photos and hold a "Day of the Seafarers " film exhibition to review our sailing journey.
After reviewing the theme of each year, did you find that IMO protects the legitimate rights and interests of the crew from various roles, perspectives, policies and the crew itself, so that people all over the world can express their gratitude to the crew and improve the status of the crew. E-PORTS holds various activities about the crew every year. The exclusive interview with the crew is to express our gratitude to the crew. On the Day of the Seafarers in 2022, E-PORTS presents holiday gift packages to sailors all over the world. In the case of the COVID-19, E-PORTS provides a security guarantee for sailors.
