A Day Out at The Big Kahuna Classic

On October 11, 2021, The Big Kahuna Classic was held at Heritage Pointe Golf Club, Calgary. It was a Hawaiian-themed 27-hole golf tournament that was played in two-player teams with their own ball for the hole and the best score is chosen after each hole), Scramble (the best shot is chosen from each shot and both players play from the same spot), and Scotch (both players tee off and hit each other’s tee shot, select the best shot and alternate shots until the hole is completed).

The day started off with a tasty breakfast sandwich before the 10 am shotgun start. Each player also received a Heritage Pointe ball marker that was customized with their initials during registration. The air temperature was a little chilly in the morning, but the day warmed up to an impressive 23 degrees which was a lovely surprise for mid-October.

The golf course was in great condition and the greens were very smooth and quick. The music was blasting, the drinks were flowing, and everyone was having a great time. The players had a colourful display of outfits to fit the Hawaiian theme, ranging from flower printed shirts to hula skirts and leis. The Hawaiian-themed lunch consisted of a grilled chicken pineapple burger followed by a traditional Luau-style dinner with pork as the main course after the round.

After the delicious dinner, prizes were awarded for both net and gross for each division (Men's, Ladies, Mixed). There was also a best-dressed prize where you can see that the winners above clearly deserved the honour! A raffle took place after the main prizegiving which consisted of some wonderful gifts such as golf bags, golf backpacks, and much more.

The overall tournament was a great success and a huge thanks must be given to the organizers, maintenance crew, chefs, and players. We’re hoping to see this event take place each year so that everyone can enjoy a fun, competitive round before the season ends.
