A Day in the Life of a Shopify Recruiter

This week we visited Montreal, and we got to spend a day with Shopify Recruiter Ogechi Ngadi. During our visit, she gave us a tour of her space and brought us along as she played her part in making commerce better for everyone.

What do you do at Shopify?

I am a Recruiter on the Commercial Talent Team. My job is to help teams grow by bringing exceptional Talent to Shopify. Shopify's mission is to make commerce better for everyone. In my role, I get to be part of the process of finding those smart people.

How do you work??

I start my day by heading down to my building's gym. I'm super grateful to have the time and space to be active and wake myself up with movement. I then make my first of the many cups of tea I drink throughout the day and head to my home office. I check my emails and Slack before jumping into other aspects of my job, including looking at resumes, video interviews, offer calls and hiring manager syncs.

I usually wind up working from my couch as the day progresses. I love that I can fully relax and get comfortable while doing my work. It is definitely one of the perks of working from home!

When my partner is home during the day, we enjoy each other's company and have lunch together. When I want to take a break from work, I typically watch a funny YouTube video, take a walk, or play VR!

I always love scheduling coffee chats with my colleagues during the week. This is a time for us to get together, catch up, and continue to foster our friendships.?

Once my workday comes to a close, I like to unwind for a moment and catch up on my social media. I then act as sous-chef to my partner, who is admittedly the better cook in the relationship, and enjoy the meal we have prepared together.

What's your favourite part of remote work experience?

For me, time flexibility is the best part of remote work. I like that I have the freedom to start my days a bit later or clock out earlier if I need to. The trust and independence given to us as employees is remarkable, and I always feel like I have the autonomy to create the work schedule that fits my needs. In addition, I get to use openings in my schedule to do things like go to the grocery store, finish a load of laundry, or have lunch with a friend. Another perk is not having to head out of the house during crazy Montreal snowstorms!?
