Day in the Life - Schaeffler Accelerated Leadership Program

Schaeffler’s Accelerated Leadership Program develops highly qualified engineers and business professionals through practical experience, mentorships and formal training. Candidates complete four six-month rotations based on the chosen career path, which takes place in a variety of Schaffler locations – including the possibility of international assignments.??

We asked a current aspiring leader, Sean Haggerty, to give us insights on what it is like to work within the Accelerated Leadership Program at Schaffler.?

?

Schaeffler: What does a typical day look like as an R&D engineer within the Advanced Leadership Program at Schaeffler??

(Sean Haggerty SH): Every day is different for me in this exciting eMotor revolution. There is an urgency to each project, and my priorities are consistently changing. I often assess priorities and rearrange them as needed. Through personal experience and the leadership program I have touched on a lot of areas within engineering, like research, testing, designing, and meeting with suppliers and customers.?

What skills are you currently developing???

(SH): I began working in the automotive industry as a mechanic at age 17 and have been learning new skills ever since. I have my degree in mechanical engineering, which helps me understand those advanced mechanical devices we all know as cars. As an eMotor sensors engineer, I have advanced training and skills in electrical engineering, some of which Schaeffler has helped me acquire! I frequently use creativity when solving everyday challenges. When interacting with various partners, the ability to communicate complex technologies in a simplified manner is a crucial component of my work. I have even learned a little German to better collaborate with our teams across the world!?

?

What is your favorite part about working in the Accelerated Leadership Program at Schaeffler??

(SH): The opportunities. I get to be driving part of the electric car revolution. Schaeffler has given me the opportunity to work in many locations and various areas of the business. I was even able to live and work for Schaeffler in Germany for one of my rotations (6 months). In comparison to working as a young mechanic, I’ve had the opportunity to learn so much more about the automotive industry. It is a very fulfilling learning experience.?

?

What inspires you most??

(SH): The most inspiring part of my job is making a lasting and positive change to the world’s environment. Working at Schaeffler gives me an opportunity to do that today by developing tomorrow’s eMotors.?
